Microcopy | iOS permission request

Goal

“We are struggling to get approval from Appstore with our new version of the mobile app, and their reason of rejection is the explanation of camera usage. We ask to use the camera… to enable taking pictures in the support section. We don’t know why they are not happy… We asked them what they are looking for but they’re ignoring us. Do you have any suggestions?”

Approach

I used Apple’s native permission alert. I worked with engineers to change the UX so that it prompted the user for permission when they actually needed to upload an image in the support section, not when they launched the app.
The text beneath Apple’s default message was changed to explain exactly why we needed permission – “This allows you to take a photo of the problem and show us what is happening. This helps us to assist you faster.”

Outcome

The app was approved by Apple the same day.
